Justice Eldad Mwangushya of the High Court has today lifted city lawyer Caleb Alaka’s suspension by the Law Council, Xclusive UG can reliably reveal. Alaka ‘s law firm was suspended last year for misconduct after insignificant election petition allegedly was mishandled by his law firm. He was suspended for six months and fined Shs24.5 million. The lection petition was handled on behalf of Mr Jjaako Akawowo, a former contender for chairmanship of Nsangi Sub-countyin Wakiso District. Alaka’s law firm found itself sullied by an unexplained ineptitude and mistake: It filed Akawowo’s petition before a Chief Magistrate’s Court instead of a High Court! Following a number of legal gymnastics, the case was dismissed. A disgruntled Akawowo petitioned the Law Council, which found Alaka guilty of conduct unbecoming of an Advocate. However Alaka has been given a fresh lease of life after the suspension was lifted.
