When you see him in the company of loaded ‘Sangomas’ Ivan Ssemwanga and Zari Hassan you can’t help but believe Shafique Katumba aka Katsha YCMB is keeping a million dollar account in a bank. Just earlier this week, Katsha offered $10, 000 (shs25 million) for whoever brings her singer Rema Namakula.

He lives a showy lifestyle. However what our investigative team unearthed about this 25-year-old South African hustler will not only shock the nation but also go a long way in painting a candid picture of these showy nkuba kyeyos who think splashing a few dosh in bars is a matter of life and death.

In a dire bid to keep up appearances, Katsha ended up in jail on Boxing Day after a flopped Sushi Party at Kabalagala based Club Venom only to be bailed out by his family members.

That marked his stay in the country as he couldn’t handle the proliferating number of debtors. Today we dig deep to unearth who the really Katsha is;

Who is Katsha?

Born to the late Abdu Nasir Ssekitoleko and Monica Ssekitoleko exactly 24 years ago, Katsha never got a chance to see his father as he ‘disappeared’ moments after his birth. His elder sister Sophie Namuddu, 27 posted on her Facebook wall that their polygamous father must have died while fighting in the jungles of Congo in the early 1990s.

Their mum commonly referred to by her Christian name Monica by pals in Kawuku, Bunga took on the onus of raising the two up to today. Katsha, described as awkwardly dense by his classmates at St. Paul Ggaba Demonstration Primary School and St. Ponsiano Ngondwe, didn’t want to further his education beyond O-level.

“He wanted to make money to overcome the biting poverty at home, that’s why he combed the whole of Kampala in his vacation for any type of job. When he finally landed a polythene bag vending job, he learnt firsthand that not everyone who works gets dividends,” said a family source who preferred anonymity.

Katsha never got a coin while still carrying this odd job never mind walking over 20 kilometers a day! At this time of despair, his swaggerific South Africa based uncle returned to Uganda in 2007 telling him how Madibaland was flowing with honey and milk.

The next thing Katsha was chasing was a passport to follow his uncle and try out his luck; all this without his mother’s knowledge. “Hello is this Katumba’s mum? Your son is stranded at the Zimbabwe South African boarder and will need $100 to get entrance, if you delay he may end up in prison,” was the harsh midnight call Katsha’s mother received concerning his son’s whereabouts.

He had gone several days without returning home and efforts to involve the police were already underway. Completely perplexed and left with no options but to send the

money via Western Union to the anonymous caller, Monica borrowed the money from friends to see that his then 17-year-old son enters South Africa for greener pastures.

He soon made it to Johannesburg where he met his gaudy uncle who quickly got him a job as a hawker. For a full year, Katsha would supply leaflets in the plush city and would in return be given some bucks. It’s at this moment that the showy side of him grew to limitless bounds; he contemplated returning home to show off his new status and upon touching down at Entebbe he booked into a posh hotel implying he was now too big to sleep the family’s house located in the Kawuku, Kisenego slum.

His mum painfully welcomed his now ‘styled up’ son and soon he was back to South Africa without leaving even a kilo of sugar at home.

Joining Sangomas

Sources contend Katsha met Ivan’s belle Zari first and it is her who lured him into joining their pompous, fun loving group that makes sojourns back to Kampala every year. At that time Ivan and Zari were still practicing Sangomas. Actually Ivan was the head of the group and first employed Katsha as a messenger at his shrine in South Africa.

Katsha is believed to have gained quite some expertise in the business that he became independent around two years ago. A few dimes started flowing in. He then started attracting media attention as part of the Sangomas who don’t own houses in Uganda but sleep like kings in lavish hotels like Kampala Serena hotel.

He would be seen washing babes and pals with 50k notes yet at his home matters were not well. The zenith of his extravagant life style was in 2012 when one of sisters broke down when he paid over $2000 for eight days to sleep at Serena Hotel yet his mum wanted some capital to inject in her small bar business.

Surprisingly it’s his mum that even came to his rescue recently as loan sharks were up in arms. Monica dug into her shallow wallet on January 13, 2014 to buy her prodigal son an air ticket that enabled him sneak out of the country the following day via South African Airways.

He Doesn’t Do Women, Booze

Like his colleagues King Lawrence and Ivan, one would expect Katsha to change women like knickers or probably to gulp the bitter like a whale; that’s not him. In fact recently there were pictures of him wanking in his Serena Suite which propelled many to think he derives pleasure in his own satisfaction.

His family members are also worried that despite not caring about them finally, he should at least show them his missing rib. Ironically his other brother who is wallowing in poverty in Munyono also doesn’t associate that much with women.

Katasha’s favorite drink is alvaro though he buys litters for his hangers-on. But this he does as his mom and siblings contend with a not so impressive lifestyle.
