The case involving Ugandan socialite cum businessman David Kazoora Junior is turning out to be more complex than first thought. JK, as he is popularly known in Uganda, was on Thursday evening arrested in Rwanda it was believed he was set to be charged with fraud and tax evasion.
But sources in Kigali tell us that Kazoora’s case is a rather a disturbing one. He will not be charged in the courts of law and it is claimed that a company that has connections with top Rwanda government officials is pushing for his case. Sources further reveal that no case has been opened against him as police publicly continues to deny having him in custody.
When contacted, Rwanda Police assistant commissioner Damas Gatare claimed that he was not aware of any Kazoora case and arrest, and actually insisted that no arrest had taken place. But we have it on good authority that he is in jail.
Kazoora was forced to hand over himself to Rwanda law enforcers on Thursday evening after Rwanda police threatened to issue an international arrest warrant.
Under his Buddies Production Kazoora has
In the promotion Airtel required customers to load airtime to enter the draw. Lucky customers in turn would win laptops, cows and other prizes with the grand prize being a two storied house. Kazoora was in charge of overseeing the whole project and earned real big money after getting a Rwandan partner to set up Buddies Production in Kachiru
Rwanda. However it is said that as he carried out his operations, he evaded taxes and his company was found to be fraudulent.
When he was summoned to police in Rwanda some months back to explain himself, he took off and returned to Uganda. We are told that Airtel Uganda also advised him to report to Rwanda since he is in charge of the Bifuna Kilalu promotion here in Uganda. Airtel could not risk tarnishing its name.
Our sources in Kigali tell us that Kazoora is currently detained at Kachiru Police Station but like already said, Rwanda Police is treating this matter as highly sensitive. Meanwhile another source in Kigali says he (JK) could end up with
Persona Non Grata on his passport.
