President Yoweri Museveni has said no Ugandan, including controversial tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, is above the law.

This was a few hours ago during the state of the nation address at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Museveni told the packed house that, some investors have exploited the nature by polluting the environment without minding about the Tourism industry.

In this regard, the president said he was disturbed by reports that some high profile Ugandans were encroaching on Lake Victoria.

In July last year, Wakiso District chairperson Matia Lwanga Bwanika and the residents of Namulanda village petitioned Parliament challenging the activities of Rosebud Flower farm owned by city tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia.

The wetland has been the centre of conflict

after area residents accused Rosebud, a flower firm, of encroaching on the wetland. Ruparelia insists that his activities were approved by the National Environment Management Authority (Nema).

Before Ms Kadaga suspended the Committee proceedings, MPs had planned to summon Nema to explain the Rosebud’s licence.

In his usual jolly or rather comical style of address, president Museveni looked every inch very serious when he tackled this issue.

“When am travelling in air I often look through the windows and see green where there’s supposed to be water. This is unacceptable. Even Sudhir is not above the law and I will not accept anyone to act as if they are above the law. Even you people here. You know very well because I have crashed you before,” Museveni said.
