As the saying goes luck befalls those that are prepared so was singer Iryn Namubiru who out of sheer caution of her life put her swimming skills to test thus cheating death after a boat she was on carrying over 100 people capsized on Lake Victoria on Saturday evening.
Through the voice note that has been making arounds of how the whole incident started coupled with the boat’s waiter – a one David Katerega, also a survivor, has since revealed in an interview that the singer didn’t wait for the boat to sink as she jumped off to swim to safety.
“Iryn had not trusted the boat from the beginning because she came in late and later asked to join with a few speed boats to catch up with the partiers who were now on the main boat. The boat was not destined to any where as revealed by the lady in the Audio. They were simply to station in the middle of the lakeas they enjoyed the night. Well.. er… that didnt seem to come to pass as when the boat was starting to swing side to side, she is said to have jumped off and swam to the first boat that came to rescue. It’s her who told the people that we need help back there,” said Katerega while at Mulago Hospital.
Iryn has since taken to social media to announce that she ‘managed to survive but still undergoing treatment’.
In her words she wrote “I would like to thank all of you who have reached out to me, Thank you for the Thoughts, Concern, Care and Beautiful messages! By GOD’S GRACE I am still Alive ,Safe, and getting medical attention but still so traumatised. My deepest thoughts to our comrades who didn’t make it and condolences to the bereaved families. What can I say? The DEVIL and his ACCOMPLICES are not winning. GOD IS JUST NOT DONE WITH ME YET, but he is for sure trying to make me understand something.’
Iryn also sent condolence messages to the victim’s families asking God to see them through this difficult moment.
