UGANDA PEOPLE’S Congress (UPC) president and Lira Municipality lawmaker Hon. Jimmy Akena’s marriage to minister Betty Amongi is no more.
Sources tell Xclusive UG Akena and Amongi marriage collapsed months ago, and the two have lived separately in Kampala since then.
Akena shifted to Nalya Estates while Amongi now stays in a private house in Najeera.
Previously the two were staying together as husband and wife on Entebbe Road.
We are told: “Betty is not with Jimmy anymore. The two split and have been apart for the better part of2019.”
Though details about the cause of their split remain sketchy, a source says the separation was mutual.
“Both Jimmy and Betty realise their marriage was not going anywhere. They agree separation was good for both of them. It was the right thing to do,” said the source.
We could not get a comment from both parties by publication time.

Their colourful wedding was attended by high profile guests including President Yoweri Museveni and 32 Members of Parliament.
Amongi is the minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development.
Akena is the son to former Uganda president Apollo Milton Obote.
