THE FAMILY of late Joshua Rushegyera has accused President Yoweri Museveni’s brothers of ‘disorganizing the burial of our son.’
During a requim service last evening held at the Rushegyera home in Rwenjeru in Bushenyi district, late Joshua’s brother and heir to the Rushegyera household condemned the decision to have his brother buried away from his ancestral/father’s home.
Over the weekend a statement from the Rushegyera revealed controversy surrounding Joshua’s burial.
The statement read: “The tragic demise of Joshua Rushegyera our son and brother has left the family devastated. We cannot express in words our heartfelt grief, Joshua you will forever remain in our hearts, especially the manner in which the merciless killers ended your precious life in Cold blood. We pray that the killers be brought to book to account for this crime so shocking.
However, as a family we thought we would lay you to rest by the resting place of your mother in Kasharari or near your father’s grave in Rwenjeru Bushenyi. We are disheartened that some people so powerful onyour late mother’s side have dictated to bury your remains at your maternal Uncle’s place in Kazo in total disregard our leanage and ancestry customs. This is a very big embarrassment and disappointment not only to the Rushegyera Family, but to the people of Kasharari, Rwenjeru and Bushenyi District, and the Basingo Clan.
We have therefore as a family resolved not to go to Kazo for burial, but wish our son and brother an eternal rest.”
And during the prayers yesterday, Joshua’s brother and other speakers went bareknuckles, revealing it was Museveni brothers, Michael Nuwagaba alias Toyota (in first pic), and Sadrack Nzeire, who had ordered change of burial grounds.
They were closely working with Bukanga MP Hon. Kangwagye, president Museveni’s cousin.
Speaker from speaker condemned the first family members for denying Joshua a descent and proper burial at his father’s home.
Martin Mumpe Rushegyera, told mourners at their home in Rwenjeru yesterday that Joshua should have been buried next to his father, and that is where the family laid a wreath as a sign.
The big congregation led by parish priest for Rwenjeru prayed for the family to recover from their son’s murder.
Joshua Rushegyere was murdered alonside a one Merina Tumusiime last Friday at the Entebbe Express Highway.
Police is pursuing the murderers.
