FURIOUS Ugandans have taken to social media to condemn the brutal manner in which Police arrested Uganda’s greatest basketball player (G.O.A.T).
Legend Norman Blick was arrested on Sunday evening for ‘defying government orders’ as the country ups game to fight Coronavirus pandemic.
He was arrested along the Northern by-pass in Kiwatule while he was trying to complete his evening workout.
The lanky player, donning yellow sneakers, was dragged like a thief by several police men before being pushed under a police patrol and whisked away.
In an earlier statement, Police had cautioned the public and advised everyone to stop gathering on groups, including those who jog.
“As we enter day 6, of the 14-day dusk to dawn curfew and wider partial lockdown, we would like to start by wishing all Christians in Uganda a happy Palm Sunday,” read a statement from Police FC.
“And further inform thepublic that as we continue to monitor the behavior of the population we have noticed that there are still a few people taking risks by; … all persons jogging along the public roads and highways in groups , especially along the Northern bypass, Muyenga , Munyonyo, Kyanja, Kiwatule, Kisasi, Ntinda and others from Kireka, Seeta, Kirinya, Bweyogerere, and Kiira and Kyaliwajjala, who gather at Namboole parking areas…
“We would like to issue a serious warning to these rule breakers, that we won’t hesitate taking tougher action against them.”
Blick, who has many caps with the National basketball team the Silverbacks, is a five-time league champion. He won two titles with Power and one each with Nkumba Marines, Warriors and Sky Jammers.
He is highly revered in Uganda’s sports circles and Ugandans are calling on police to apologise.
