Ugandan artistes are bitter

A SECTION OF top Ugandan artistes have vowed to boycott the upcoming Kampala City Carnival after it emerged Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz will be paid a hefty Shs90 million for a thirty minute performance, while all Ugandan artistes will earn less than Shs50 million from the organizers.

Musicians led by duo Moze Radio and Weasel have protested over the discrepancies in payments made to them, as compared to the amount paid to Tanzanian musician Diamond Platnumz to perform at the KCCA

carnival in October.

Info reaching our desk indicates all Ugandan musicians will be paid just about Shs50 million, shs40 million less than what Diamond will earn.

This, they claim, is a belittlement and some, including A Pass among others have opted out and come out to publicly criticize the carnival organizers who are led by KCCA ED Jenifer Musisi.

The three-day KCCA Carnival will start on Friday October 6 to Sunday October 8 and we are told Uganda’s biggest earning musician (s) are budgeted for Shs10 million.

This is a mindboggling Shs90 million less than what Diamond will get.

“The local artistes feel belittled and disrespected. This is unacceptable,” one source said.
