Charles Pater Mayiga’s heart fell apart after his elder brother also the heir to his father Jimmy Kato was knocked dead while riding a bicycle.
Kato was allegedly riding to his home in Kasanje in Masaka when a car knocked him dead.
He was returning from serving King Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi 11 of Buganda after performing his official duties as the secretary of the kingdom’s Buddu country when he met his fate.
He was buried on Tuesday in his ancestral village of Kasanje in the greater Masaka region.
“I learned the art of keeping records from him. He was a man who wrote each and every piece of important information down,” Mayiga stated.
Mayiga served as the private secretary of Kabaka Mutebi and Buganda Lukiiko for manyyears, before the king elevated the senior lawyer to his current lofty office of the kingdom’s premiership.
“He has managed the affairs of our late father’s estate with distinction. He has served his kingdom and country with distinction too,” Mayiga declared as he bid farewell to his big brother.
“I convey my felt condolences to the Katikkiro, the family of the deceased as well as the kingdom. May the Good Lord rest his soul in eternal,” read the message signed by the king himself.
Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi called the death a terrible incident. “He was highly educated and had exceptional love for fellow humans,” grieved the Vice president who is also the MP for residents of the village where the departed had his home.
President Museveni contacted Ssekandi on phone to convey his shock at the death of the elder. He pledged a total of Ushs20m in condolence fees.
