A renowned Kampala based hospital is in the spot for allegedly removing/harvesting a private organ of a patient.
According to Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago, Old Kampala Hospital harvested the kidney of one Muhammad Kabanda.
“Perturbed by the incredulous spike of the heinous and barbaric crime of kidney harvest in Uganda.

One of the disturbing cases we’re handling involves poor Kabanda Muhammad, a petty trader in Owino market, whose kidney was harvested by some unscrupulous doctors at Old Kampala Hospital a couple of weeks ago,” Lukwago told the media.
According to Lukwago, Mr. Kabanda visited the said facility on 24th September following a bodaboda accident at Lukuli.
He had sustained injuries on the forehead that required an operation at a sum of Ugx 3,600,000/= but when the process was done he was shocked to discover that he had a fresh incision on the left hand side of his abdomen which could not be satisfactorily explained.
Two ultra sound scans were done at Malcom and Mulago Hospital and the reports of radiologists confirmed that the kidney had been extracted. A CT Scan was also conducted at Mengo Hospital and posted the same results.
The Lord mayor further added that such cases are in the increase in Kampala and involve a highly connected racket.
“It’s a cause for worry,” he said.
We have reached out to the hospital for a comment.
