Chief Magistrate, HW Gladys Kamasanyu, from the Standards, Utilities and Wildlife Court is participating in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) at Panama City, Panama.
At least 184 CITES member States are meeting to deliberate on issues aimed at ensuring that international trade in wildlife species is regulated to avoid unsustainable exploitation of over 38,000 wildlife species.

HW Kamasanyu is part of an 11-member delegation from Uganda led by Hon. Tom Butime, Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in the two-week long 19th Conference of CITES.
Uganda has since 1991been party to CITES and has enacted legislation to domesticate CITES.
The Uganda Judiciary as one of the key stakeholders in protecting CITES listed species, took a deliberate move to establish the Standards, Utilities and Wildlife Court – the only specialized wildlife court in Africa that has substantially contributed to enforcement of the laws protecting wildlife in Uganda.
