The iKon Awards, which are a celebration of film and Television in Uganda last weekend held a brunch-themed celebration for their 2023 nominees at Divine Resort, in Mukono.
The event was attended by many film and TV industry players including film actors, Directors, screenwriters as well partners of the iKon Awards kicked off pre-celebration activities of the awards, leading up to the award gala, slated for Saturday 25th March 2023 at the Kampala Serena Hotel. Attendees included personalities like Dr Sam Bagenda, Eleanor and Matthew Nabwiso, Actors Nana Kagga, Allan Kutos, Cleopatra Koheirwe, Prince Joel Okuyo Atiku and many others.
While speaking at the celebration, the founder of the iKon Awards, Humphrey Nabimanya, re-echoed his confidence in the Awards living up to their mission of educating, connecting and celebrating filmmakers in Uganda.
“I firmly believe that this platform is not only educating and nurturing talent but also creating a new standard in film. We have talent in Uganda, and we need to start consuming Ugandan talent and we can’t achieve that if we don’t invest in our work,” he stated.

Also in attendance was Joe Kigozi, the Chief Strategy Officer at Next Media Services and the Chairman of the board at Reach A Hand Uganda, who reassured the industry players of the Media Hub’s support of the film industry in Uganda.
“ As the hub, we will not give up on the film industry; we will continue to events like the iKon Awards and will further support the Ugandan story, as a passionate team of winners and keep the flag high. The Film industry needs a brand identity and through initiatives such as these, the hub brings together the ecosystem of film,” he explained.
The nominees at the event were also presented with certificates for their nominations in this year’s edition of the awards.
The iKon Awards brunch was proudly sponsored by Ugandan Waragi, whose vision with this partnership is to enhance the Ugandan content by telling Ugandan stories by Ugandan creatives.
