If you’ve been part of Kampala’s nightlife or corporate world, you must know the name Chris Ireland.
He made his name as the main man in Uganda’s corporate marketing industry. Starting as one of the pioneer presenters of 88.2 Sanyu FM radio in the early 1990s, Chris Ireland would later join other corporate companies like Nile Breweries Limited, MTN, Broadband among others where he excelled.
A few years ago, he rejoined Sanyu FM as the General Manager, replacing Betsy Mugamba.
As general manager, Chris Ireland was supposed to spark a new wave of dominance over the airwaves with a fresh set of presenters and a dedicated team with on goal in mind – to be the market leader of Uganda’s radio scene.
“With a natural inclination to music, Chris is best suited to guide the station that brags a sound that can only be described as ‘Today’s Best Music,” a statement read as be joined Sanyu as GM.

But a few years down the road, Chris Ireland did the unthinkable when he stole (yes, stole) over Shs500 million from the radio coffers and disappeared in thin air.
The radio station owner tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia is in tears.
We hear Chris Ireland using his position disappeared with over Shs500 million and according to our sources, he fled to Canada taking his young family with him.
As the General Manager, Chris Ireland was a signtory on some of the station’s operating bank accounts. For example, he would easily access the company’s marketing funds which he channeled for his personal use and fled.
Around two years ago, Chris Ireland married a very juicy muhima woman and the two are blessed with a son.
The three are all in Canada as you read this.
But what shocked pals is how Chris Ireland, a formidable marketer who had made his mark as one of the best could steal and disappear with such small amount of money.
We hear Sudhir has tried to do whatever it takes to recover the money in vain.
In the old days, Ireland, using the moniker of ‘Darling DJ Chris’ pioneered the very first morning show on Sanyu FM; he now returns 26 years later with a wealth of marketing knowledge that will push the station further.
As a marketer, Ireland has worked with MTN Uganda, SABMiller, Uganda Breweries, Broadband Uganda and Madhvani Industries among other places where he rendered his talents. While he was away from Sanyu undertaking marketing jobs with various companies, Ireland founded a band called Code 9 that kept him around the entertainment circles of Uganda
