KABALE-The Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, called upon Christians to cultivate mutual understanding within their families for the betterment of the church.
Bishop Akanjuna made this call during the induction service of Ven. Benon Byaruhanga, held at St. John’s Kamuganguzi COU archdeaconry in Katuna Town Council of Kabale district. The cleric expressed concerns that many families lack mutual understanding, leading to a gap between family members, which poses a threat to the church’s future. He also noted that children are growing up without moral values, which could hinder the next generation’s well-being.
Furthermore, he urged leaders to practice humility and specifically asked Ven. Benon Byaruhanga to do the same to create a harmonious working environment with the Christians of Kamuganguzi.

Preaching in the same service, Rev. Canon Milton Nkurunungi, the Diocesan secretary, reminded leaders about their limitations in their respective roles, encouraging them to seek guidance when they encounter challenges. He challenged leaders with a misconception of leadership, emphasizing that leadership is a calling meant for service rather than mere enjoyment, referencing 1 Corinthians 1:26. He also stressed that leadership is seasonal, and those called to serve must remember the purpose of their calling.
Rev. Canon Nkurunungi added that church leaders engaged in corruption and other forms of immorality, urging them to cease such behaviour as their role is to spread the word of God, not engage in evil acts. He also urged Christians to collaborate with their archdeacon and other church leaders to foster the development of the church.
In his speech, Ven. Benon Byaruhanga expressed gratitude to the Christians of Kamuganguzi, called for their support, promising to work diligently towards the church’s development.
