KANUNGU -Police in Kanungu district are investigating the circumstances surrounding a 30-year-old man who took his own life.
Bright Turyatunga, a resident of Kinyabutongo village, Kyibimbiri parish, Matanda sub-county, Kanungu district, committed suicide by ingesting poison, which tragically ended his life.
It is alleged that the deceased was in a love affair with one Ingabire Sharon from the same area. On 22/10/2023, around 22:00hrs, he went to Ingabire Sharon’s home without her consent, and she refused to open the door.
On 23/10/2023, at approximately 08:00hrs, he was found lying in the compound of Ingabire Sharon in critical condition. Community members attempted to provide him with first aid, but he unfortunately passed away instantly.

It is further alleged that he had previously committed in writing before the community members not to disturb Ingabire Sharon by going to her home again.
According to information from the area chairperson, Deus Owoyesigire, the deceased had made several suicide attempts, and on 22/10/2023, he had declared his intention to commit suicide.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region spokesperson, informed our reporter that when the police were notified, they visited the crime scene, documented it, and conducted a postmortem. The body was then handed over to the relatives for burial arrangements.
Maate also revealed that exhibits of suspected swallowed chemical (fludan) were recovered at the crime scene for submission to the Government Analytical Laboratory (GAL) for analysis. He confirmed that the case was registered at Kihihi Police station under reference number CRB 341/2023 for further management.
