RUKUNGIRI –Police in Rukungiri district have reported a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy.
The deceased has been identified as Dismus Kyokwijuka, a resident of Runyamunyu cell, Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri district.
Asp Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, revealed that the incident occurred today on 25/10/2023 at approximately 12:00 hrs. A motor vehicle with registration number UBM 711G, a Fuso Fighter Silver and green in color, was heading to Bikurungu town in Bikurungu sub-county in Rukungiri district along Rukungiri-Khihi road when it struck and killed a pedestrian due to a mechanical fault.

Maate noted that upon reaching Bagawe cell in Bugangari sub-county, the vehicle went off the road due to a mechanical fault (bearings), resulting in the pedestrian’s immediate death.Furthermore, the driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital unconscious, along with two other unidentified passengers who were on board and also suffered serious injuries.Maate further confirmed that when the police were informed, the scene was visited and documented by a team led by DTO Rukungiri, Asp Ntawera Felix. A post-mortem was conducted, and the scene was cleared. The vehicle was towed and parked pending an IOV inspection.
The case was officially registered at Rukungiri CPS under reference number TAR 96/2023.”
