KISORO –Police in Kisoro district are currently holding 20 people who are accused of assaulting and setting fire to the properties of Mukanoheri Christine, a peasant and resident of Ntarama village in Soko parish, Muramba sub-county.
The incident occurred on 1/11/2023 around 1 pm in Ntarama and Rusenyi villages, Soko parish.

According to the police report, Sebaramba George, a 49-year-old businessman and resident of Kabaya village in Gitendere parish, Nyarusiza sub-county, informed the police that community members attacked the homes of Nyiransenga, Mukanoheri Christine, and Regina, setting their houses ablaze and burning all their properties, claiming they practiced witchcraft.
Apparently, during the incident, Mukanoheri Christine was badly assaulted and had to be rescued by police officers from Kisoro police station. She was subsequently taken to the Torch to Heart Medical Centre for treatment.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, informed our reporter that upon receiving the notification, police visited the scene, led by IP Rwamahe, SOCO detectives, and uniformed personnel.
Maate adds that the scene was processed, documented, and twenty suspects were arrested and detained to assist in the investigations.
The case was officially registered at Kisoro CPS under reference number CRB:771/2023.”
