RUKUNGIRI –The police in Rukungiri district have arrested a 40-year-old man for the alleged murder of his 39-year-old nephew.
The suspect is Apollo Niwenyesiga Kabududu, a resident of Nyakabare cell, Central Ward, Kebisoni Town Council in Rukungiri district. He is alleged to have killed Darius Turyamwijuka, a resident of the same area, by striking him with a hoe.
According to Asp Elly Maate, on October 31, 2023, at around 19:00 hrs in Nyakabare cell, the deceased returned home while drunk and encountered his uncle, Apollo Niwenyesiga Kabududu. Maate notes that the two got into a quarrel, during which the deceased struck his uncle with a stick twice. Out of annoyance, Apollo picked up a hoe and repeatedly struck the deceased on the head and back, causing his death.
Furthermore, this incident occurred in the presence of a 5-year-old boy named Ainemani Franklin, who began crying, attracting Kabyesiza Edson to the scene. Edson discovered Darius’s lifeless body in a pool of blood and promptly informed the area Chairperson, Katamba Richard, who reported the matter to Kebisoni Police Station.

Maate confirmed that the crime scene was visited, the hoe used as an exhibit was recovered, the suspect was arrested, and he is currently detained at CPS Rukungiri. The deceased’s body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Maate also mentioned that inquiries into the matter are underway, and the case has been officially registered at Rukungiri CPS under reference number CRB: 1355/2023.
