Former foreign affairs minister Sam Kuteesa has pledged to build a cathedral church at All Saints Church of Uganda parish in Sembabule District.
A reporter prevy to the details confirms that the church will cost a whopping sh2.4 billion, an amount, according to sources, Kuteesa is more than willing to foot alone.
Ever since this was revealed, a section of people who hail from the district and who belong to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) establishment welcomed the move, saying Sembabule would benefit immensely.
The chairperson of NRM Staunch Youth, Nayebare David Benezeri, reacted: “On behalf of Sembabule District Youth, we thank him and pray to God to bless him with good health.”

Nayebale’s post was followed by comments from other people, such as Asan Kasingye and Balaam Barugahara, among others, who thanked the ex-minister for his generosity.
Some, however, questioned the move, asking whether a new cathedral church would solve all Sembabule District problems.
“How will a cathedral reduce Sembabule’s problems? Who is it addressing, youth? Or money laundering? Will a cathedral solve water problems, bad roads, falling classrooms, and hospitals with no drugs?” an account going by the name Mbarara Coffin Dealers commented.
Patie commented, “Unfortunately, it’s not important; we have as many churches.”

Sam Kuteesa served as Uganda’s minister for foreign affairs in President Museveni’s government for more than a decade and also represented Uganda on quite a number of global platforms and institutions, the United Nations and African Union being some of them. He served as the Member of Parliament for Mawogola County in Sembabule District.
Kuteesa also served as the president of the United Nations General Assembly, but his position was revoked following his support for the Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2014, after a petition by human rights bodies garnered over 15, 000 signatures.
