IBANDA –The police in Ibanda district have reported a case of suicide by poison involving a Munyankole female adult, approximately 35 years old.
The deceased identified as Akankunda Scovia also known as Nalongo was a resident of Kafunjo cell, Bufanda ward Bufanda Division Ibanda Municipality, Ibanda district. She worked at Ibanda Central Market.

According to SP Samson Kasisira the Rwizi police spokesperson, the deceased was a Christian worshipper at Depth Ministries Church, led by Pastor Bukenya Daniel. Allegedly, the deceased had saved 16,000,000/= (sixteen million shillings) with the pastor. However, when she requested her savings, he claimed she had only saved 800,000/= (eight hundred thousand shillings).
Kasisira stated that the deceased reported the matter to CPS Ibanda on 06/11/2023. When the pastor was contacted, he didn’t respond, and the deceased was advised to seek legal redress in civil courts since the matter was deemed civil.
On the next day, she returned to the pastor, and when the situation remained unchanged, she consumed poison in front of him but rushed to the nearest clinic where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Kasisira informed our reporter that the deceased’s body was taken to Ruhoko Health Center 4 mortuary for postmortem as inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
