Dancehall artist Crescent Baguma, better known by his stage name Beenie Gunter, is making bold moves in his music career. As rumors of his upcoming international collaborations spread last year, it became evident that Gunter was shifting his musical focus towards a more global sound.
In celebration of his 32nd birthday on February 24, Gunter made a significant career leap by officially signing with Zhafar Music Agency, a record label known for its diverse musical approach and commitment to both local and international markets.
In a statement following the signing, Gunter expressed his excitement about working with a label that embraces multiple genres and creative influences, stating, “I’ve always believed that tapping into diverse sounds and collaborations is the key to breaking international barriers for Ugandan music. I’m confident that the upcoming projects will resonate with fans, not just here in Uganda, but around the world.”
Haruna Zhafar, the CEO of Zhafar Music Agency, also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Music is the pulse of culture, and at Zhafar, we are driven to push the industry forward by fostering creativity and collaboration. It’s a pleasure to welcome Beenie Gunter to our label, and I look forward to creating groundbreaking music alongside him and other talented artists.”

As part of the deal, the label will oversee all aspects of Gunter’s career, including studio recordings, music videos, media tours, photoshoots, performances, endorsements, and bookings, both locally and internationally.
The signing event also doubled as a birthday celebration for Gunter, who was gifted with three cameras, a smartphone, and a cash prize of 10 million shillings to kickstart his journey as a newly signed artist.
This new venture comes at a time when professional music labels are still relatively rare in Uganda, where many artists face challenges in managing their careers. However, Gunter remains optimistic. Having previously been part of a record label, he believes this new partnership will provide the growth and learning opportunities he needs to thrive in the music industry.
Gunter’s signature phrase, “Guntalk city to the world,” is now poised to come to life as he embarks on this exciting new chapter of his career.
