Rukungiri-In a surprising turn of events ahead of the NRM primary elections, three former Rubabo County parliamentary hopefuls—Mr. Mugarura George Kaana, Ms. Akangumya Stellah Rusoso, and Mr. Laurence Twinamatsiko Bijoki—have officially withdrawn from the race and pledged their support to fellow aspirant Mwesigwa Mathias Rwabugumi.
The three candidates, who had earlier signaled their interest in contesting for the Rubabo County parliamentary seat through posters and public declarations, failed to pick nomination forms or be duly nominated.
Citing financial constraints and other personal challenges, they each declared their decision to step down and support Rwabugumi’s bid.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Mugarura George Kaana explained that limited resources and logistical challenges hampered his campaign plans. “After deep reflection and consultations, I’ve chosen to support Mwesigwa Mathias Rwabugumi, a candidate I believe can represent our people well in Parliament,” Mugarura stated.
He urged his supporters and well-wishers to rally behind Rwabugumi just as they had supported him.

In a bold call, Mugarura also appealed to another un-nominated aspirant, Mr. Mujuni Lawrence Mpisi who was disqualified due to past allegations of embezzlement during his tenure at the Equal Opportunities Commission to join their united front in support of Rwabugumi. “Let us consolidate our support behind someone who can fully represent our voice,” Mugarura emphasized.

Mr. Laurence Twinamatsiko Bijoki echoed similar sentiments, saying his withdrawal was influenced by circumstances he would explain further during the campaign season.
“This decision was not easy, but it was necessary. I call on my supporters to join me in supporting Mwesigwa Mathias Rwabugumi as the right candidate for Rubabo,” Bijoki said. While Ms. Akangumya Stellah Rusoso has not yet made a public statement, insiders confirmed she too has aligned with Rwabugumi’s camp and is mobilizing support behind him.

In response to the developments, Mwesigwa Mathias Rwabugumi warmly welcomed the three aspirants, hailing their decision as a sign of unity and shared commitment to the development of Rubabo County.“
I deeply appreciate their courage and sacrifice. Their endorsement is a great boost to our movement,” Rwabugumi said.
“I call upon the people of Rubabo to elect leaders who can truly represent their interests and advocate for essential services in Parliament.”
As the NRM prepares for joint campaign activities, Rwabugumi’s growing coalition could prove pivotal in shaping the race for Rubabo County’s parliamentary seat.
