Over 7000 school children largely from the Greater Kampala Metropolitan area and spreading as far as Mityana and Masaka thronged the KCCA City Hall Gardens to take part in a 2km solidarity Children’s Climate Change March as a symbol of their personal commitment to take care of their environment in their schools, homes and communities.
The event, which took place on Saturday 18 April, was organised by Uganda’s Little Hands Go Green with the generous support of partners like Hariss International- the makers of Riham, Psalms Foods Industries, Ministry of Environment- Climate Change Department, NFA and ofcourse the host partner, KCCA.
The event was graced by the Deputy Executive Director of KCCA Mr. Benon Kigenyi, Director Gender KCCA , Ag ED NFA, Hon Emmanuel Biara representing Parliament and the Speaker, Commissioner Climate Change Dept Mr. Bob Natifu representing the Ministry of Environment, Head of the Little Hands Go Green Schools Network Mr Thomas Kitandwe and Miss Kobusingye Hamira heading the Environmental Civil societies.

This was the 5th year Little Hands Go Green has been holding this march at the KCCA City Hall.
In a special way, this year the Little Hands Go Green Children’s Climate Change march happened simultaneously in Kampala and Munich Germany (pictured below) on then same day.


KCCA deputy ED Kigenyi said the environment is everyone’s responsibility and thanked Little Hands Go Green for the part they are playing.

“Taking care of our environment is a responsibility of you and me. Seeing all of you children with this ignited passion to do your bit for the environment is inspiring. KCCA is proud to be a long term partner of you the Little Hands,” he said.
In his remarks, Mr. Joseph Masembe- the Founder of Little Hands Go Green and the brain child of the cross continent Children’s Climate March praised the resilience and passion of the young Green Ambassadors who have taken it upon themselves to change the narrative, add their climate action voices to the bigger Global fight against Climate change.
“Taking the lead in this signifies a revolutionary approach of putting children centre stage in the fight against climate change,” Masembe said.

The acting Commissioner Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Water & Environment re-echoed government’s commitment towards ensuring a greener and healthier Pearl of Africa where environmental and biodiversity conservation are top of the agenda.
