Uganda Police have confirmed the arrest of Asiimwe Christian, alias Don Chris, a former director of the now-defunct labour recruitment company Sky Pins, over allegations of obtaining money by false pretences and fraudulent labour recruitment.
Police said Asiimwe was arrested at about 2:00am on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at a bar in Zana, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
According to police, the suspect is accused of defrauding job seekers between 2022 and 2025 by allegedly promising to secure employment for them in countries including Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar and Dubai.
The alleged job offers included positions such as waiters, cleaners and caregivers, among others.
Police said the scale of the allegations is significant, with statements already recorded from more than 500 alleged victims.
The victims reportedly told investigators that they paid between Sh5 million and Sh10 million each, depending on the type of job they were promised and the country where they expected to be deployed.
If the reported number of victims and payment ranges are taken together, the alleged financial exposure could run into billions of shillings, although the exact amount allegedly obtained will be established through investigations.
Asiimwe is currently being held in police custody as detectives continue investigating the allegations. Police said he will be produced before court in accordance with the law.
The arrest is likely to renew scrutiny of fraudulent labour recruitment schemes in Uganda, where job seekers are often targeted with promises of lucrative employment abroad.
Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution before handing over money to labour recruitment companies or agents.
Authorities specifically advised prospective migrant workers to verify the legitimacy and licensing status of recruitment companies and agents before making payments or entering into employment arrangements.
Anyone with information relevant to the Sky Pins case has also been urged to report to the nearest police station.
Police said investigations remain ongoing.
