KABALE-At least seven students of St Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality were yesterday arrested for malicious damage to school property worth millions of shillings.

Those detained are Abasa Andrew, Agaba Willy, Ahurira Casbert, Munezero Fredrick, Amanya Nickson, Irakiza Timothy and Mucunguzi Anthony.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspects staged a strike on Thursday night at around 11pm after their fellow students were chased out of school for assaulting a senior one student over alleged theft of Shs40,000, leaving the window glasses for administration block and some classrooms broken. Maate told our reporter last evening that the students claimed that a decision on the fate of the suspended Senior Five students by the school board of governors who are yet to sit, is pending.

Maate said that Police visited the school and recorded statements from relevant witnesses and arrested the suspects.

Additionally, inquiries into the matter are at hand to bring other suspects on board and while investigations are underway at Kabale Central Police Station vide CRB 908/2023.
