Tecno Mobile has officially launched its Camon 50 Series in Uganda after weeks of teasers: the Camon 50 and Camon 50 Pro are now available locally with several upgrades over their predecessors. Although the pair had been slated for an unveiling at MWC next month, as per some online reports, they are already official in multiple African markets (Uganda inclusive) with both models sharing similar specifications and features; however, the Pro version stands out with a curved screen and a 3× telephoto camera.

The Camon 50 Pro is built around a curved 6.78-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, featuring a 32MP front-facing camera and an under-display optical fingerprint scanner, while the standard Camon 50 offers the same screen specifications, selfie camera, and fingerprint sensor but opts for a flat panel instead of a curved design.

Both devices are powered by MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for smooth performance and ample space. On the rear, the two phones share a 50MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide sensor, though the Camon 50 Pro sets itself apart with an additional 50MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom.

Both phones boot HiOS 16 based on Android 16 (receives up to 3 major Android upgrades). As for power, the pair comes with 6,150mAh batteries with 45W wired charging. The phones are IP69K/IP69/IP68 ingress-protected, and according to Bruce Dickson, Product Consultant at TECNO Uganda, they can withstand drops and are water-immersible up to 2m for 30 min.

One feature that was placed more emphasis on was the company’s AI, Ella. “Tecno AI is so easy because it’s here to improve your productivity and also enhance your creativity,” said Bruce. “Rather than relying on third-party apps, the phone integrates AI capabilities directly into the experience, making advanced features accessible to everyday users and creators.”

Tecno positions the Camon 50 and Camon 40 series as part of a broader AI-powered ecosystem, describing them as fully integrated “360 AI smartphones.” The experience spans across the device, from an AI-enhanced camera system to a built-in smart assistant, ensuring artificial intelligence supports both creativity and everyday productivity.

At the center of this ecosystem is Ella Voice Assistant, TECNO’s in-house AI assistant. Ella is designed to be constantly available, helping users manage daily tasks such as scheduling appointments, setting flight reminders, and handling general voice commands. By embedding AI across multiple functions, the Camon series aims to deliver a seamless, hands-free smartphone experience that adapts to users’ routines.

The Tecno Camon 50 series is available in Moonlight Black, Malachite Green, Fir Green, Lavender Mist, and Mint Cream. The Camon 50 is priced at UGX1,090,000, while the Camon 50 Pro starts at UGX1,190,000. Both models can be bought at the manufacturer’s stores nationwide and are also listed on Jumia and at MTN Uganda service centres.

Taken together, the Camon 50 series packages AI tools, robust hardware, long battery life, and practical connectivity features into an affordable smartphone aimed at creators, travellers, and everyday users who want flagship features without flagship prices.
