The Judicial Training Institute in conjunction with Panel Reform International (PRI) conducted a two days training of Chief Magistrates and Magistrates Grade One from the Northern and West Nile regions on the domestication of international standards on gender-sensitive and child-friendly justice. The workshop took place on Thursday October 13,2022 and Friday October 14, 2022 at Churchill Hotel in Gulu.
The training centered around sharing experiences on the application of international standards and regional safeguards on gender responsiveness, and child-friendly criminal justice processes in Uganda
Topics handled included understanding peculiar circumstances and needs of both women and children that are in conflict with the law; and tracking the progress of the implementation of rules such as the UN Bangkok and Beijing Rules in Uganda. Others were; discovering the existing practices of mainstreaming gender in judicial processes and taking stock of the treatment of women defendants and children in the criminal justice system.

In his opening remarks, the Lira Resident Judge, Hon. Justice Duncan Gaswaga applauded PRI for partnering with the Judiciary and appreciated the institutional efforts and cooperation in ensuring that the training was a success.
Facilitators for the training included Justices Hon. Justice Duncan Gaswaga and Hon. Lady Justice Susan Okalany, and the Registrar Judicial Training Institute, HW Mary Kaitesi. The training was moderated by HW Moses Angualia.
