“The Uganda Police Force would like to confirm the arrest of the Butambala County legislator, Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi. He is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court in due course,” police said.
According to authorities, the arrest follows ongoing investigations into acts of political violence that were reported during the electoral period in the district. Police have not yet disclosed specific charges, noting that investigations are still ongoing.
The development comes days after President Yoweri Museveni, while delivering his post-election victory speech, accused supporters of Hon. Kivumbi of planning violent attacks on polling stations using pangas. The President said that security agencies acted in time to foil the alleged plots and prevent violence.

President Museveni did not, however, provide details. Hon. Kivumbi, also doubles as opposition NUP Deputy President for Buganda. The party is yet to comment on the development.
