RUKUNGIRI –Police in Rukungiri district are investigating the circumstances that led to the murder of a 73-year-old man by unknown assailants.
The deceased has been identified as Mureera Adriano, a Muhororo by tribe, a peasant, and a resident of Bihasha cell, Kahoko parish, Nyakagyeme sub-county in Rukungiri District.
According to the police report, the tragic incident was reported by Rwabatabazi George, a 72-year-old male, also a Muhororo by tribe, a peasant, and a resident of Bihasha cell, Kahoko parish, Nyakagyeme sub-county in Rukungiri District.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, alleges that this tragic incident unfolded at an unknown time on the night of 30-31/10/2023 at Omukitengye trading center, Bihasha cell, Kahoko parish, Nyakagyeme sub-county in Rukungiri District.

It’s alleged that on 31/10/2023, at around 04:40 hrs at Omukitengye trading center, Bihasha cell, Mureera Adriano was found dead by Kusiima Edwin (the deceased’s grandson), who had gone out to urinate. Edwin then alerted neighbors, including Kwesiga Sowedi, who immediately reported the incident to the area chairperson, Ainobushoborozi Gilvazio. He went to the scene and found the deceased’s body lying alongside Bihasha road.
Furthermore, the area chairperson sent Rwabatabazi George (the deceased’s brother) to Nyakagyeme police station and reported the incident.
Maate told our reporter that the crime scene was visited, examined, and documented, with the assistance of a K9 unit. Statements were recorded from relevant witnesses, and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for a postmortem. Efforts to trace the suspect(s) involved are being made, and inquiries into the matter are underway. The case was officially registered at Rukungiri CPS under reference number CRB: 1349/2023.
