A new personal safety app called ProofPing has launched in Uganda, offering a simple way for people to stay connected to those who care about them most.
The app is built on a clear idea: someone should always know you are safe.
During the official launch on Tuesday at Mestil Hotel and Residences in Kampala, Isaac Mutabazi, the founder of the app, said that ProofPing was developed in Uganda but is designed to solve a global problem.
“ProofPing is going to provide a solution to a growing but often overlooked safety concern,” Mutabazi said before explaining that it works through a daily check-in system.
Each day, users receive a reminder prompting them to confirm they are safe by tapping “I’m Good.” If they fail to respond within a set time, the app automatically sends alerts to selected emergency contacts, including the user’s exact location.
“Many East Africans work abroad, particularly in the Middle East, often in isolation and far from their families. In some cases, communication breaks down for days or even weeks, leaving loved ones worried and without answers.
The same concern affects diaspora communities in Europe and North America, as well as elderly or vulnerable people living alone back home,” he said. The app’s founder, Isaac Mutabazi, says the idea was inspired by the need to bridge this communication gap and provide reassurance. Unlike many safety apps, it does not require an SOS button or a manual call—its key strength is detecting when someone goes silent, which can often be the first sign of trouble.
The app also includes features such as a medical information vault that can be accessed by first responders, automatic location alerts, and the ability to notify multiple emergency contacts at once via SMS and email. A travel mode increases the frequency of check-ins for people on the move, while a dashboard allows loved ones to monitor a user’s status in real time.
ProofPing is free to download from the App Store and Google Play. The basic version offers daily check-ins and alerts to one contact. Paid plans expand the number of contacts and unlock additional features such as SMS alerts, travel mode, the emergency medical vault and a real-time monitoring dashboard.
