The Uganda Police Force has announced a nationwide ban on all vehicles and other forms of transport on Saturday, 25 July 2026, as the country observes National Cleaning Day.
According to a statement issued by police, no vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, or vessels will be allowed on roads and water bodies between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. across the country.
The restriction is intended to allow citizens to participate in the government-led exercise aimed at promoting a cleaner environment and preventing diseases linked to poor sanitation.
Police said traffic movement will be restricted countrywide during the three-hour period.
Members of the public have been urged to remain in their areas, take part in the cleaning exercise, and only resume normal activities at 10:00 a.m.
“We therefore urge all citizens, motorists, traders, institutions, and community leaders to fully comply with this directive and actively participate in the cleaning exercise,” the statement read.
The ban will not apply to:
- Emergency services, including medical emergencies. Persons on scheduled medical treatment are advised to carry relevant medical documentation. Medical personnel must also carry identification documents.
- Security vehicles on official duty.
- Cross-border vehicular traffic along major transport arteries.
The Uganda Police Force has asked the public to cooperate with security personnel deployed to enforce the directive and to avoid any altercations.
Citizens with concerns have been advised to seek guidance from the nearest police officer or supervisor on duty.
National Cleaning Day is part of the Government of Uganda’s efforts to improve public health and sanitation nationwide.
