Liberty General Insurance Uganda has earned industry recognition after its motor insurance solution, Protecta Bode, secured the Judges’ Special Award at the IRA Insurance Innovation Awards 2025.
The accolade comes amid ongoing concerns over Uganda’s rising road accidents, which continue to leave many motorists financially vulnerable due to low insurance coverage.
Launched to close the gap between costly comprehensive policies and basic third-party insurance, Protecta Bode provides a more affordable alternative. Priced at just 1.5% of a vehicle’s value, the product targets private car owners and small-scale transport operators seeking practical yet cost-effective cover.
The policy offers protection against third-party injury or death, property damage, driver medical expenses, and partial vehicle damage including windscreens and lights.
According to Liberty, the product is designed to ease the financial strain caused by accidents while encouraging responsible road use.
A standout aspect of Protecta Bode is its digital approach. Through collaborations with platforms such as SafeBoda and SafeCar, customers can conveniently purchase policies, carry out inspections, and file claims online.
Initial uptake suggests growing interest in the product, with UGX 120 million already generated in premiums, 60 vehicles insured, and over 300 more in the onboarding pipeline. Claims have also been successfully processed, boosting user confidence.
The offering is further strengthened through partnerships with firms like Easy Ride Uganda, which provides emergency road rescue services to policyholders.
Liberty says the initiative aligns with its broader mission of expanding inclusive insurance, enhancing road safety, and promoting sustainable business practices under its ESG commitments.
With traffic steadily increasing across Uganda, solutions like Protecta Bode are expected to play a critical role in making motor insurance more accessible and practical for everyday motorists.
