Uganda is set to combine environmental conservation, children’s participation and entertainment at the Green Festival 2026, scheduled for Sunday, August 23, at Lugogo Grounds in Kampala.

The festival, organised by Little Hands Go Green, will run from 10am to 6pm and is aimed at promoting environmental awareness while encouraging children and families to take an active role in protecting Uganda’s environment.

According to the chief organiser the Little Hands Go Green CEO Joseph Masembe, the event will feature a range of activities designed to make environmental conservation both educational and entertaining. He says the festival is part of its broader campaign to inspire children to become custodians of the environment.

One of the key attractions will be a performance by Ugandan musician John Blaq.

The event will also encourage participants to embrace the “green” theme, with attendees asked to dress in green.

Children are expected to take centre stage in the environmental campaign, with the organisers promising a free fruit-tree seedling for every child attending the festival. The initiative is intended to turn the event’s environmental message into practical action by encouraging families to plant and care for trees.

Little Hands Go Green has already planted more than 1,000,000 fruit trees, worked with about 1,000 primary schools and established a network of hundreds of thousands of “Go-Green Ambassadors.”

The organisation, which has been promoting environmental conservation and child participation in Uganda since 2012, describes its approach as using children as drivers of environmental change in schools and communities.

The 2026 edition comes at a time when environmental concerns, including climate change, pollution and the need for increased tree cover, continue to dominate public discussions in Uganda.

Beyond the entertainment, the Green Festival is therefore expected to provide a platform for environmental education, community mobilisation and advocacy, particularly among young people.

Entry to the festival is Shs10,000.

The event will take place at Lugogo Grounds, next to UMA Show Grounds, on Sunday, August 23.
