2 children dead, 3 injured after mother stabs them in Kabalagala

KAMPALA — Police in Kampala are investigating a horrific attack in Kabalagala in which a mother is suspected of stabbing her children, leaving two dead and three others seriously injured.

The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police South, the violence came to light after a housemaid was awakened by an alarm and cries for help from children in the main house.

The maid went to check on the children and found several of them with severe stab wounds. She immediately opened the house and raised an alarm.

Police said Khadija Daizy, 14, was found dead in her bedroom.

Another child, Hawa Dalena, 7, was rushed to Nsambya Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.

Three other children, aged 13, 8 and 5, survived the attack and were taken to hospital for medical attention.

Police have identified Namayo Dorothy, 43, a Kenyan national and mother of the victims, as the suspect in the attack.

Namayo was also found injured following the incident and is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital, where she remains under police guard.

Police have not yet established the circumstances surrounding her injuries or disclosed a possible motive for the attack.

Investigators are expected to question her as part of efforts to establish what happened inside the home before and during the attack.

The incident also involved a fire at the family premises.

Police said a Toyota Hiace vehicle parked at the home was set on fire and completely burnt.

The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire.

Police immediately deployed homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and fire investigators to the home.

The teams examined and documented the scene and recovered exhibits that will undergo forensic analysis as investigators piece together the events surrounding the attack.

The bodies of Khadija and Hawa were conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police have also recorded statements from the person who reported the incident and other relevant witnesses.

The case has been registered at Kabalagala Police Division as murder, attempted murder and arson.

Detectives are now investigating the circumstances that led to the stabbing of the children, the death of the two juveniles and the subsequent burning of the vehicle.

Police are also seeking to establish the motive behind the attack and whether the fire was deliberately started as part of the incident.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect remained under police guard at Mulago.

The three surviving children are receiving medical attention as police continue with inquiries into one of the most disturbing incidents reported in the Kabalagala area.

Police have cautioned against speculation as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries.
