Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), saying its functions, budgets and responsibilities will be transferred to Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).
In a statement, Gen Muhoozi said the changes would take effect immediately, effectively bringing the activities previously handled by PACEID under OWC.
âWe are officially dissolving PACEID as an organisation. All its functions, budgets and responsibilities will be taken over by Operation Wealth Creation. This starts immediately,â Gen Muhoozi said.
The CDF also said the status of PACEID executive chairman Odrek Rwabwogo was still being discussed, leaving his immediate future within the government structure uncertain.
âThe status of Odrek is being discussed,â Gen Muhoozi said.
The statement further warned that individuals he referred to as âBrothers in lawâ would also face disciplinary action, although he did not provide details on who specifically was being referred to or what form the disciplinary measures would take.
âWe will discipline so called âBrothers in lawâ too,â he said.
The announcement marks a significant development in the governmentâs approach to the programmes and responsibilities previously coordinated through PACEID.
It was not immediately clear whether PACEID staff, ongoing programmes, assets and contractual obligations would automatically be transferred to OWC or whether a separate transition process would be established.
The announcement also leaves questions over Rwabwogoâs next role and whether the dissolution will result in a broader restructuring of government initiatives dealing with exports, industrial development and wealth creation.
Further official details are expected on the implementation of the directive and the fate of PACEID personnel and programmes.
