KABALE –The permanent secretary in the ministry of health Dr. Diana Atwiine has warned young adults against using emergency pills after sex.
Atwiine made the warning on Wednesday 8th November 2023 while giving Keynote address on her outreach on provision of integrated sexual reproductive health/HIV/ Gender Based Violence and mental health services organized by ministry of health at Kabale University under the theme “bridging the gap in access to sexual reproductive health information and services for young people”.
She said that young adults especially university students use bad family planning methods like use of emergency pills after sex which may cause future health complications. She added that emergence pills should only be used once not routinely.
Atwiine added that routine use of emergency pills have led to increase mortality rate. According to statistics, 24% of mortality rate cases are young girls. Dr. Diana Atwiine advised young adult girls to take responsibilities of their body and health for a bright future.

Prof. Joy Kwesiga the Kabale University vice chancellor said that the reason why young adults face a lot of challenges is they lack information on how their body functions. Prof. Joy Kwesiga called for focusing on a girl child as well as a boy child.
