As social media continues to redefine how young people learn, communicate and pursue their dreams, Janan Secondary School is preparing to premiere The School Influencer, a thought-provoking Ugandan film that explores both the opportunities and dangers of growing up in the digital age.
At a time when many students aspire to become online influencers, content creators and internet celebrities, The School Influencer tells a timely story that challenges audiences to reflect on the choices made in pursuit of online fame.

The film centres on Nadra, a brilliant boarding school student admired for her academic excellence and leadership.
Away from school, however, she is secretly building a massive following on TikTok. As her online popularity grows, so do the opportunities that come with it. Together with a group of close friends, she is introduced to a glamorous lifestyle that appears exciting and rewarding but gradually exposes them to temptation, manipulation and life-altering consequences.

Rather than condemning social media, the film presents a balanced perspective, recognising its power to educate, inspire innovation, create careers and connect communities. At the same time, it highlights the importance of digital responsibility, critical thinking and making informed decisions in an online world where one click can change a life forever.
According to Mr. Kironde, Director of Janan Secondary School, the film was developed as an innovative educational resource that speaks the language of today’s generation.

“Young people spend a significant part of their lives online. To reach them effectively, we must communicate in ways they understand and relate to. Film has the power to entertain while inspiring reflection, discussion and positive change. Through this project, we hope to encourage students to embrace technology responsibly without losing sight of the values that shape their future.”
Following its official release, The School Influencer will be taken to schools across Uganda as part of a nationwide awareness campaign promoting responsible social media use, digital citizenship, cyber safety and positive youth development.

The screenings will be accompanied by interactive engagements with students, parents and teachers to encourage open conversations about navigating today’s digital landscape.
The initiative underscores Janan Secondary School’s commitment to preparing learners not only for academic success but also for the realities of modern life.
By combining education with entertainment, the school hopes to empower young people to become responsible digital citizens who use technology to create opportunities while protecting themselves and those around them.
With its powerful storyline, relatable characters and relevant message, The School Influencer is expected to resonate with students, parents, educators and anyone interested in the future of young people in an increasingly connected world.
The School Influencer is set to premiere soon, inviting audiences to reflect on a simple but powerful truth: influence is not measured by followers alone, but by the choices we make and the lives we impact.
