A popular Bukoto based hangout is on the spot for disregarding National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) orders over noise pollution.
Management of Tales Bukoto Gardens- formerly The 400 bar- have adamantly refused to adhere to NEMA orders to stop all their nights that play music above the lawfully allowed decibals.
And our sources tell us the bar is owned by two top Uganda police officers.
The bar is located along Bukoto – Kisaasi Road in Mukalazi Zone.
We hear the bar plays loud music- especially during band days on Tuesdays and Thursdays- into the wee hours of the night keeping the whole neighborhood awake.
They have been served with letters from both KCCA and NEMA but the Police bar bosses have refused to kowtow to these orders.

One neighbor told us: “We are raising this concern for quite some time now. Yet no proper solution in place. We don’t mind to run their business but within the approved limit. Honestly the music is too loud. I can’t even have a zoom call with my family abroad. It’s really becoming a burden and the bar doesn’t seem to care anymore now, they have gone back to their old ways… weekend and weekdays. We need solution ASAP.”
Now neigbors are up in arms and want a quick solution to this problem.
Uganda’s Noise Standards and Control Regulations restrict noise levels to 40 decibels in residential areas and 60 decibels in commercial areas.
However some social places have been accused of flaunting this law. And it’s sad that in this case, it’s law enforcers breaking this law.
