The Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen Edward Kale Kayihura is a happy man after the army court dropped cases that had been filed against him related to torture, failure to protect war material, aiding and abetting the kidnapping of Rwandese refugees.

The former police boss was arrested from his country home and farm in Lyantonde and detained at the military barracks in Makindye as he faced these charges which were filed in 2018, a year after he was fired by his boss Museveni who is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces.

He was sacked alongside his nemesis Gen Henry Tumukunde who was the defense minister at the time as the two crashed on several occasions hence risking the security of the country.

The former police boss was IGP for over 13 years from 2005 to March 2018 having taken over from the now minister of Works Gen Edward Katumba Wamala. Kayihura was replaced by his immediate former Deputy IGP Martins Okoth Ochola.

He has since been sanctioned alongside his immediate family members by the US and the UK over his style of leadership at Uganda police which they say tortured Ugandans and gross violation of human rights.

The former police boss ahead of his retirement from the army has been set free of any wrong doing by the general court martial after the DPP dismissed all the cases against him. Inside sources reveal the dropping of te charges against Kayihura is to cleanse his name of any wrong doing as he’s set for a big appointment in Museveni’s government.
