KANUNGU-Police in Kanungu district are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden suicide by hanging of a 41-year-old man.

The deceased has been identified as Abel Tugumizemu, a resident of Nyabihoko Cell in Nyamigoyi Parish, Kanyantorogo Sub County, Kanungu district.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region spokesperson, alleges that on 21/10/2023 at about 18:00hrs, the deceased went to the home of the area chairperson, one Benson Rwabihogo, complaining that people were following him.

Maate adds that since it was late, the chairperson gave him a room to sleep in, intending to address his problem in the morning. Unfortunately, he was found hanging in the same room in the morning.

The Police were notified, the scene was visited, and the body was retrieved from the rope. A postmortem was conducted at the scene by Dr. Yosamu of Kanyantorogo Health Center III, and the body was handed over to relatives for burial.

Maate told our reporter yesterday evening that inquiries into the matter are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the hanging. The case has been registered at Kihihi Police station under reference number CRB 339/2023.
