ISINGIRO -Police in Isingiro District are currently detaining four individuals on suspicion of hacking and subsequently murdering Mr. Byenyinemwe Ben, the 64-year-old Chairman LCII of Nyamitsindo Parish, Masha Subcounty, Isingiro District.

The suspects are Kiconco Sylivia, a 56-year-old female, who is the wife of the deceased ,Katushabe Aloysious, a 40-year-old male, who is the son of the deceased, Yebuuze Ronald, a 33-year-old male, who is also a son of the deceased and Tukwatanise Moses, a 30-year-old male and a neighbor to the deceased’s son.

According to SP Samson Kasisira the Rwizi region police spokesperson, on the night of October 22, 2023, at approximately 00:09, the police in Masha received information from Mr. Kato, the defense secretary of Nyamitsindo Parish, regarding the murder of the LCII Chairman. Police swiftly dispatched a team of officers to the scene, including the Police Canine Unit. Upon their arrival, they discovered the deceased’s body lying on his bed in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his neck.

The wife of the deceased, who was present during the incident, claimed that the assailants attacked her husband while she was in the store. She mentioned that she encountered three individuals leaving the house, and they assaulted her as they fled.

Subsequently, when the Police Canine dog was brought to the scene, it led the officers to Nyakagyera cell in Kabingo subcounty, which is about 10 kilometers from the crime scene. The dog entered the house of the deceased’s son, Yebuuze Ronald, and later proceeded to the house of Tukwatanise Moses, the neighbor.

Kasisira further revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had experienced domestic misunderstandings following the deceased’s marriage to a second wife, which led to family conflicts.

The body of the deceased was transported to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. The four suspects remain in police custody, and investigations and inquiries into the matter are ongoing to determine the main cause of the murder.
