KISORO-The Police in Kisoro district have detained two men for allegedly murdering a 60-year-old woman in Nkuringo Town Council, in a suspected vengeance.

The suspects, Geoffrey Niyibizi, a 32-year-old carpenter, and Enoch Niyonzima, a 25-year-old peasant, both residents of Nteko village in Nkuringo Town Council of Kisoro district while the deceased is Nyirantezimana Daforoza, of the same address.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, says that a group of individuals armed with a machete entered the deceased’s home on Friday night and viciously attacked her, resulting in her immediate death. According to Maate, the suspects, who are stepsons, had suspected Nyirantezimana of being involved in the death of their father, who passed away in April 2023. She was arrested but subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing due to a lack of evidence.

Maate told our reporter last evening that Police have since apprehended the two suspects to assist in the ongoing investigation, and a postmortem was carried out to ascertain the cause of Nyirantezimana’s death.

Meanwhile the case has been registered at Kisoro Police Station under Reference Number CRB 734/2023.
