Woman Murdered On A Burial Over Witchcraft Allegations

KISORO -Police in Kisoro district have arrested four suspects for questioning regarding the alleged murder of 48-year-old Naomi Nyirambonigaba, a resident of Kagano cell in Kanaba sub-county.

According to Asp Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, the incident transpired during the burial of Jonas in Gisasa village on 18/11/2023 as mourners at the burial implicated individuals, including Nyirambonigaba Naomi, in the alleged witchcraft-related death of Jonas when speakers revealed the supposed culprits, chaos ensued, resulting in Naomi being fatally assaulted by enraged mourners, while others fled for their lives.

Maate explained that the motive behind the murder was suspicion of witchcraft. He adds that following a public tip-off, a murder case file was promptly opened, and a team of homicide detectives along with SOCO Kisoro was dispatched to the crime scene for assessment, analysis, and documentation.

Furthermore, statements from relevant witnesses were obtained, the deceased’s body was transported to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem and four suspects were arrested to aid police investigations.

Maate informed the press that inquiries into the matter are underway and the case file has been officially registered at Kisoro CPS under reference number CRB DEF 18/2023.
