Rubanda East, Uganda –As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries approach, controversy has erupted in Rubanda East over allegations that incumbent Hon. Henry Musasizi is engaging in unethical practices to secure re-election where reports have surfaced accusing Musasizi of purchasing national identity cards from residents between 100.000= to 500.000=, a move perceived as an attempt to manipulate voter support through intimidation.
The accusations were brought to light by Hon. Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema, a contestant for the Parliamentary position for Rubanda East during a recent address to the electorates of Nyamweru sub-county, Biryabarema condemned the alleged actions, describing them as a direct attack on the democratic rights of the people.
Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema explained that this is not just about winning an election; it’s about preserving the integrity of our democratic process and the act of buying identity cards undermines the very foundation of free and fair elections, and it is a form of sabotage against the people’s right to choose their leaders without fear or coercion.
Residents and leaders of Rubanda East have expressed mixed reactions to the allegations where some community members have voiced concerns over the potential impact on the upcoming July 17th primaries, fearing that such tactics could skew the results and undermine public trust in the electoral process.
Local authorities and election monitors are being urged to investigate these claims thoroughly to ensure that the primaries are conducted transparently and fairly.
