Kabale -Youth in Kamonyi A Village, Kisoro Municipality, have embarked on a transformative journey with the launch of a piggery project valued at UGX 7.5 million. The initiative, led by the Kamonyi A Village Youth Development Group, aims to uplift youth livelihoods and curb rising unemployment in the area.

The project is funded by Dr. Leo Mfitimana, a parliamentary hopeful for Kisoro Municipality, who has championed similar youth-centered initiatives across multiple divisions. His continued support has been hailed as a game-changer in mobilizing and empowering young people with practical, income-generating skills.

Collins Musengimana, Chairperson of the Kamonyi A Youth Development Group, expressed gratitude and optimism during the groundbreaking ceremony.

“This project will keep our youth engaged, reduce idleness, and prevent them from falling into criminal behavior or negative peer pressure,” he said.

“It’s the first time a leader has come directly to us with a developmental idea and tangible support. I urge all youth to stay committed and take ownership of this opportunity.”

Members of the group also commended Dr. Mfitimana for his hands-on involvement and visionary leadership. Many said the project offered them hope for a more stable and self-reliant future, reducing the need to migrate to urban areas in search of work.

“This initiative gives us a reason to stay in our community and build something meaningful,” one youth member said.

“We encourage other villages to connect with forward-thinking leaders like Dr. Mfitimana to bring similar development to their areas.”

Speaking at the event, Dr. Leo Mfitimana emphasized the importance of equipping young people with practical skills, especially during school holidays.

“Our youth must be empowered before they even finish school,” he stated. “When they have the skills and means to earn a living, they become agents of development in their own communities.”

He also pledged continued support to the Kamonyi A Youth Development Group, including assistance with feed and further project funding to ensure long-term sustainability.

The project has been welcomed by local leaders and residents as a timely intervention in the fight against youth unemployment. It is expected to serve as a model for similar grassroots development efforts across Kisoro Municipality.
