RUKUNGIRI-Residents of Kishanda 2 Cell in Nyakinengo Parish, Nyakagyeme Subcounty, Rukungiri District, are raising the alarm over persistent lack of electricity and access to clean and safe water, calling on the government to urgently intervene and address their plight.

Speaking to our reporter Isaiah Kakyeka, residents Tumanyire Hildah and Godffry Nuwagaba expressed deep frustration that their village remains neglected while other nearby areas receive better services. They revealed that they rely on water from wells and open dams, which they say poses serious health risks.“Our community feels left behind,” said Hildah.

“We depend on unsafe sources of water and still live in the dark without electricity. We are appealing to the government to consider us like they do for other villages.”*The residents said the lack of basic infrastructure has hindered development and compromised the well-being of families, especially women and children who bear the brunt of fetching unsafe water from distant sources.

In response to these concerns, aspiring Member of Parliament Annah Nuwagaba Tumuramye, who addressed a local rally, pledged to be the voice of the people in Parliament if elected.“Our people continue to suffer because their challenges are not effectively represented in Parliament,” said Annah.

“If elected, I will advocate for equitable service delivery, and ensure that critical infrastructure like clean water and electricity are prioritized.”She emphasized the need for leaders who are rooted in communities and committed to addressing grassroots issues.

She urged residents to vote for people-centered leaders and not those driven by personal gain. “My leadership will be inclusive. I want to see every village, including Kishanda 2, get the services it deserves,” she added.

The rally highlighted growing dissatisfaction among rural communities in Rukungiri, as the 2026 general elections draw closer. Residents continue to demand better infrastructure, healthcare, and education, hoping that the next leaders will bring real change.—*Reporting by Isaiah Kakyeka | Rukungiri District*
