Hajjat Hadijja Namyalo, the head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) is in South Africa on an official mission to receive members of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) who have crossed over to the ruling party.

Namyalo, who is President Yoweri Museveni’s key mobilizer and a senior figure within the NRM, is leading a delegation to welcome dozens of NUP supporters based in the diaspora. The group has pledged allegiance to the NRM, citing confidence in its leadership and the country’s development agenda.
The NUP, led by Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, is Uganda’s largest opposition party and has enjoyed strong support from the Ugandan diaspora, particularly in countries like South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This defection marks a symbolic win for the NRM, which has faced growing opposition, especially among youth and diaspora communities.

Speaking before her departure, Namyalo emphasized that the NRM is a party for all Ugandans, regardless of past political affiliation. “We are here to unite our people and work together for the betterment of Uganda,” she said.
The event in South Africa will include a formal welcoming ceremony and is expected to draw a large number of Ugandan nationals living in the region. Namyalo’s visit underscores the NRM’s ongoing strategy to consolidate support beyond Uganda’s borders.
