Rubanda-Rubanda District, particularly Rubanda County East, is witnessing heightened political tensions as the July NRM Primary elections approach where allegations have surfaced against Honorable Minister Henry Musasizi, accusing him of orchestrating kidnappings and assaults on residents who do not support his candidacy in Bushura Ward, Hamuhambo Town Council.
Local leaders, including Chairpersons of LC1 from seven villages within Bushura Ward, have voiced serious concerns over the alleged use of security forces by Musasizi to intimidate and abduct opposition supporters who are on Hon Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema in that these accusations have sparked fear and unrest among the community, with reports indicating that individuals are being targeted based on their political affiliations.
The situation has been further exacerbated by claims that Musasizi’s supporters have been instructed to physically assault followers of his political rival, Hon. Jogo Kenneth Biryabarema and Incidents of violence have reportedly occurred even within the confines of private homes, leaving several individuals injured and requiring medical attention.
Residents are calling for immediate intervention from higher authorities to ensure safety and fairness in the electoral process where allegations have raised significant concerns about the integrity of the upcoming NRM Primaries and the potential impact on democratic practices in the region.
Efforts to reach Honorable Musasizi for comment have so far been unsuccessful due to that he was not picking his known phone numbers by the time our reporter was filing the story.
Speaking on the matter Hon. Biryabarema condemned the acts of violence and urged for peaceful political engagement asking immediate intervention from the National NRM Chairperson HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to reconcile the party members in Rubanda District and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abas Byakagaba to explain the police escorts given to Musasizi have over taken power from the deployed District Police Commander (DPC) Rubanda in arresting suspects and intimidating residents in their respective communities.
