RUKUNGIRI — Youth delegates in Rukungiri District have officially endorsed Hon. Kanyesigye Mercy as their preferred candidate for the National Female Youth Member of Parliament seat for the 2026–2031 term.
The endorsement was made during a vibrant and politically charged meeting held yesterday at Rukungiri Inn Hotel in Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. Delegates expressed confidence in Kanyesigye’s vision and leadership, pledging to rally behind her in the forthcoming elections.
In her address, Kanyesigye outlined her priorities, promising to strengthen youth structures, advocate for increased budget allocations for youth programs, and promote unity among young people.
“If elected, I will be a uniting voice for all youth, not a dividing one,” she stated, vowing to support the Rukungiri District Youth Chairperson in acquiring a motorcycle to aid in mobilization and project monitoring. She also pledged to ensure that youth leaders actively participate in national events such as International Youth Day celebrations.
Her message struck a chord with the delegates, who praised her focus on community engagement and integrity in leadership.
Rukungiri District Youth Chairperson Levi Tukundane Napoleon and Publicity Secretary Bruce Akandinda welcomed Kanyesigye’s proposals, saying they would greatly benefit the district’s young people. Levi commended the youth for mobilizing support for the ruling NRM party.
Meanwhile, Rukungiri Municipality Youth Chairperson Brain Tugumenawe stressed the need for government support to provide motorcycles (“boda bodas”) to youth leaders to enable them to reach remote villages and mobilize support for President Yoweri Museveni’s campaigns.
With the endorsement, Kanyesigye now enjoys a strong political backing from the district’s youth leadership as she seeks to represent Uganda’s young people at the national level.
